Hi, my name is Ann and my father, Kenneth Taylor was an officer with the 733rd, HDQ Battery. My father survived the war but died a relatively young man in 1969 at the age of 52. His first assignment after OCS and FA school was at Fort Huachuca, AZ, with the 593rd FA Battalion and he was there from April 1942-Feb 1943. This was where he met and married my mother who was down from Oregon visiting a friend from college. After whirlwind 6 week courtship, they were married on July 4, 1942. She then proceeded to follow him from camp to camp until he was sent overseas. My father was assigned to the 733rd at Camp Maxey, Texas in February 1943 and was with them until the end of the war. He was assigned to HDQ Battery and was the Battalion S-3 and the Fire Direction Officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star for “meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy in France and Germany between 2 July 1944 and 16 January 1945….Captain Taylor repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to reconnoiter in front line areas to observe hostile movements….” My father never talked about his time in the Army but I have been able to contact a few of the men he served with and they shared their memories of him with me. The color photos posted on this website were taken by my father with the Hasselblad camera he bought in Germany near the end of the war. My father is the Major in the shiny helmet. Looking forward to reading stories from other members or descendants of the 733rd.

Welcome, Ann! Thank you for sharing your story.

The photos you shared are wonderful. They are the only color photos I know of that were taken by the 733rd during the war. Thank you again for sharing them!

More photos will be added in coming weeks – stick around!
